Corporate Social Responsibility
To strengthen its claim to social leadership, TNT has developed a strategy that integrates all existing and future social responsibility-related efforts. This strategy is illustrated by the TNT Social Responsibility Circle. It is this integrated approach that will differentiate TNT from its competitors.
Since 2002, TNT has been partnering with the United Nations World Food Program to promote the long-term project ‘Moving the World’ and fight world hunger. Over the past seven years, the Walk has mobilized about one million people, across 24 time zones, around the globe.
In 2007, TNT launched its global strategic program ‘Planet Me’ in an effort to reduce CO2 emissions from its operations, and inspire its employees to do the same in their private lives. In addition to monitoring its carbon footprint every month and conducting internal employee initiatives, TNT China International Express replaced traditional lights with energy-saving lamps at its Pudong Gateway, replaced all its plastic express bags with biodegradable express bags.
Beyond its environmental initiatives, TNT began the ‘Orange Care’ program to help AIDS orphans in Dehong Town in Yunnan Province, together with the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF) in March, 2006. Since then, TNT China has helped over 1000 AIDS orphans, established its first Children’s Activity Center locally and 11 reading corners, in addition to visiting these orphans every years.
Following the Sichuan earthquake on 12 May 2008, TNT China quickly reached out to its local NGO partner to arrange for the provision of assistance towards the emergency relief and recovery efforts. Over 2,300 tons of relief materials were transported using TNT fleets and aircraft. TNT launched a post-disaster educational aid program, which included establishing a ‘Hope School”, setting up 30 ‘TNT Future Leader’ libraries and sponsoring 300 high-school students in Sichuan and Gansu province through the ‘TNT Future Leaders Education Scholarship’. TNT and its employees provided a total of almost RMB 7 million in terms of donations and in-kind transportation services.
In January 2010, TNT’s Boeing 747 airlifted 100 metric tones of high energy biscuits to Haiti. Two TNT aircraft and emergency response team available to support the relief operations, donated an additional EUR 300,000 to support the relief effort. In China, employees also donated to support Haiti through the on-line platform.

Fundraising activities was also organized in China to help our colleagues right after Chile earthquake 2010.
After the Yushu earthquake in April, 2010, TNT has held national fundraising campaign to support children living in Yushu. TNT will cooperate with its corporate social responsibility partner to conduct the relief project soon. Further, TNT has worked with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation to transport relief materials from Beijing to the impacted areas.

In recognition of its efforts to returning back to the local community, TNT received the award ‘Green China: Best CSR Practice’ from the Logistics Management and Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in 2008 and the following year, in 2009, TNT China ranked as one of the “Top 50 Green Companies in China”. More significantly, in September 2009, TNT was again ranked at the top of the 2009 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), for the industrial transportation sector and the ‘industrial goods and services’ super sector, for the third consecutive year.
